Emmy’s Triumph Over Adversity: A Tale of Joy Amidst Health Challenges

Amanda Schuster shares that despite her daughter Emmy’s health challenges, she is a consistently “happy” child who radiates joy.

The couple initially believed everything was normal during Amanda’s pregnancy with Emmy in 2017. However, a 20-week checkup brought devastating news of skeletal dysplasia, deemed incompatible with life.

Doctors suggested terminating the pregnancy, predicting a grim future for Emmy. Refusing to give up, the Schusters sought a second opinion at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where Emmy was diagnosed with Pfeiffer syndrome.
Pfeiffer syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, causes abnormal skull bone fusion and growth, resulting in distinctive facial features. Despite the challenges, the Schusters were relieved Emmy would live.
Emmy, born on July 13, 2017, underwent surgeries in her early months, with Schuster sharing updates on a Facebook page. Emmy’s story gained global attention, turning her into an internet sensation with an Instagram account boasting over 14,000 followers.
Despite spending her initial months in the hospital, undergoing various surgeries, Emmy, now 18 months old, is described as a “happy girl” by her mother. Schuster highlights Emmy’s constant smiles, great temperament, and love for family, making their home a place of joy.
