Former USWNT star Julie Ertz and Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz are expecting their second child together, just eight months after the ex-NWSL player announced her retirement from professional soccer.
The couple announced the news in an Instagram post on Saturday.
‘Happy Birthday Mama! We love you! Adding to the family Summer 2024!’ Zach wrote as a caption.
He and Julie have been married since 2017. In April 2022, the couple announced the birth of their son Madden Matthew Ertz.
‘Ertz party of 4! Congrats!’ the Commanders’ Instagram account commented on the couple’s post.
Julie first retired from competitive soccer in 2021 but after a year and a half break from the game, she signed with Angel City FC as a free agent. She completed her NWSL comeback in a match against San Diego Wave FC in April 2023.
Julie also made herself available again for the USWNT after 18 months off the field following the Olympics in 2021 due to injuries and the birth of her son.
She last played for the Star and Stripes in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Zach – an NFL veteran of 11 seasons – signed a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders just last month.
A former three-time Pro Bowler with the Philadelphia Eagles, Zach left the Arizona Cardinals midway through last season after requesting for his release.
He then joined the Detroit Lions’ practice squad despite making no appearances in the playoffs.
Zach will reunite with former Cardinals coach and current Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury in the fall. But before then, he and Julie will be getting ready to welcome the latest new member of their growing family this summer.
