As the saying goes, there’s a great woman behind every great man, or perhaps more accurately, at his side. The Eagles quarterback is no exception and with that we’re exploring the life and career of the woman who has been next to him through thick and thin.
Introducing Bryonna “Bry” Rivera Burrows
Though he’s been quiet for some time about his personal life, Eagles fans were surprised to get a first-hand look at Jalen Hurts’ partner when the signal caller walked onto the field holding her hand, following the team’s NFC Championship Game win back in January last year. The woman at his side was of course Hurts’ girlfriend, Bryonna “Bry” Rivera Burrows. It was the first time that Hurts had publicly revealed his relationship with Burrows to the world, something he has not done through social media, nor has she for that matter – that we know of – with her Instagram profile being set to private. Although they did step out together at the Time100 Next Gala in New York City in October.
How did Jalen Hurts and Bryonna Rivera Burrows meet?
According to reports, the couple started a relationship during their years in college, specifically back in 2016 when they both attended the University of Alabama. For her part, Burrows pursued an undergraduate and graduate degree in political science and Spanish respectively. Where Hurts is concerned, the signal caller played for the school’s football team and was in fact the starting QB during two seasons with the famous ‘Crimson Tide,’ before transferring to Oklahoma in his senior year, prior to the NFL Draft.
Interestingly, Burrows is said to have been an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, as well as several other honor societies. Indeed, Burrows participated in the Theta Sigma chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, which is “the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women,” according to the organization’s website. Further to that, she was also a candidate for homecoming queen and even served as the school’s MBA class vice president. To punctuate the point, there is a 2016 photo on the chapter’s Instagram profile in which Burrows can be seen holding a plaque, with an accompanying caption that reads, “Our very own, Bryonna Burrows, was honored as Outstanding Junior for Order of Omega. Congratulations Bry!”
What is Bryonna Rivera Burrows doing now?
According to her LinkedIn profile, Burrows has been working in tech since her graduation. With a career at IBM that started in 2019, she has since held several positions though her profile lists her current job as AI partner. In 2021, Burrows was featured in a Harvard Business Review article which she shared on her profile. In the article, she discussed the difference in approach that different personalities take when dealing with an “always-on” culture, before describing herself as an extrovert.
