Jake Ferguson might be suffering from an injury but that doesn’t stop the tight end from celebrating his girlfriend’s college accomplishment. Ahead of the 2024-25 women’s college basketball season, Haley Cavinder was named as one of the five team captains for the Miami Hurricanes.
On Wednesday, the Hurricanes named their captains for the upcoming season. Haley joined her twin sister Hanna Cavinder as one of the captains on the squad. Ferguson reposted this to his Instagram stories while also tagging his girlfriend and captioning:
As per the Daily Mail, the couple have been together since 2022, the same year Ferguson was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. Haley is a student at the University of Miami and has returned for her final season.
On the other end, Ferguson is suffering from an injury he sustained during the Cowboys’ season opener on September 8. He was taken off the field during the third quarter after being tackled.
The 23-year-old college basketball star was thrust into the mainstream with a ton of attention and trolling as she began dating Jake Ferguson. This took a mental toll on her as she narrated her side of the story on her YouTube channel in January.
“I’m a confident girl,” said Cavinder. “But when people are saying stuff about you — if you have a boyfriend and someone is talking about you online with your boyfriend, like, coming at your features.
“I’m like, ‘This is new and obviously Jake is a great guy, but you don’t want to be called ugly on the internet 24/7, and your boyfriend sees it. That’s not going to make anyone feel cool. So, I had a mental breakdown, but that was a while ago.”
Haley Cavinder further added that the support of the 2023 Pro Bowler made her calm and comfortable as the relationship went on. Ferguson’s openness in their relationship made her confident not only in the relationship but herself as well.
The Cowboys TE has also tattooed Haley’s name on his body.
