Mitch Wishnowsky was close to his first MVP award this Super Bowl with an above-fifty-average punt. However, the Kansas City Chiefs ultimately clinched the Lombardy Trophy in overtime, winning the title a second consecutive time. Nevertheless, the San Fransisco 49ers star proved his mettle on the big stage.
The Australian-born punter came to America in 2014 to pursue his love of American football, and he has completed five years in the NFL since then. Wishnowsky now has a family in California, where he lives with his girlfriend, Madelon Leiphardt, and two kids. Having recently welcomed their second child into this world, let’s take a look at the punter’s multifaceted wife.
Maddie Leiphardt Wishnowsky is a sportswoman herself!
Madelon, better known by Maddie, hails from Goleta, California, and was born to parents Michelle and Jeff Leiphardt. She played beach volleyball at Santa Barbara City College, where she was pursuing her art degree. Maddie gets her love for sports from her parents, both of whom played at the same college during their youth. Her mother, Michelle, was a waterskiing player, while her father, Jeff, is a former college volleyball player.
Maddie has an interesting career spinning through multiple domains. She worked as a physical therapist assistant in Utah and as the head coach of the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club. Moreover, she owns a women’s swimwear brand, which was launched in 2020, named ‘bodswim.’ She began seeing Wishnowsky in 2017 and got engaged two years later. The couple tied the knot on April 7 last year and have two children together. They had their daughter Bowie in 2021 and recently welcomed their baby son, Winn, on July 13, becoming a family of four.
When Maddie got a game ball instead of Mike Wishnowsky
In 2021, when the couple’s first child was born, it was nothing short of chaos. While Maddie went into labor later than expected, an anxious Wishnowsky had lost all appetite. Bowie came into the world after a tough delivery on the night of Oct 30. The next day, mere hours later, the nervous punter flew to Chicago to join his team against the Bears. The game culminated in a 33-32 win, and head coach Kyle Shanahan had two game balls to give out.
One ball went to QB Jimmy Garoppolo for his performance, while the second one was for Maddie! In Shanahan’s own words, “I heard she was very tough,” the coach said via the 49ers. “Checking in on them, he [Mitch Wishnowsky] said he couldn’t eat. He was throwing up, he was so nervous. So he didn’t get one, she got one.”
Mitch and Maddie Wishnowsky are raising an adorable family together. While Bowie and Maddie were often seen at the stadium to support the 49ers, this upcoming season, we can expect another tiny guest in the cheering crew!
