Every player wants to start their season off on the right note, but it would be nearly impossible to top the week that Cowboys’ kicker Brandon Aubrey just lived.
The unforgettable week started on Sunday, August 11th, as Brandon Aubrey had a very busy day at the office, nailing four field goals in the preseason opener vs the LA Rams. As soon as the clock hit 0:00, Aubrey sprinted off the field before any of his teammates. He was rushed to the airport to board a flight back home. It was later revealed in an Instagram post by his wife, Jenn, that her father was the pilot who flew Brandon home.
In that same post, Jenn announced that on August 12th, Colton Scott Aubrey was born. Brandon was able to spend a couple of days in Texas with his wife and newly born son before boarding a flight back to Oxnard.
When game day rolled around just four days after the birth of his son, Brandon did something only one other person has ever done in an NFL game: He made a 66-yard field goal. According to Next Gen Stats, the kick would have been good from 72-yards out. However, since it was a preseason game, Aubrey’s kick will not go down as an NFL record, which still stands at 66 yards by Baltimore’s Justin Tucker.
A record or not, Brandon’s kick accumulated over 8.8 million views on Instagram between the NFL and the Cowboys’ posts.
Along with Aubrey’s 66-yard kick, he also drilled a 54-yard field goal and all three of his extra points.
It came by no surprise that Brandon was named Pepsi’s Player of the Game, capping off a week that the second-year kicker will never forget.
