San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk’s girlfriend has opened up on the tolls of being an NFL wife or girlfriend during the offseason, especially dealing with their partner’s anger after losing the Super Bowl.
The 49ers, who had been the favorites, suffered a heartbreaking loss at Super Bowl LVIII Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs scored a winning touchdown in the dying seconds of overtime.
Rochelle Searight, who has been dating the wide receiver since their college days, worryingly suggested that players’ frustration over the loss could be taken out on their partners.
Searight, who shares a son with Aiyuk, also claimed that NFL WAGs are ‘put to work’ when the offseason rolls around.
‘For all you people who hate on NFL girlfriends and wives, guess what our job is now? The offseason is here, we are waiting on them hand and foot,’ she said in a since-deleted TikTok video.
‘Just took a loss in the Super Bowl, we’re going to be dealing with mood swings. A lot of anger may be taken out on us but you just can’t take it personally.
‘They’re home, now we got to do the cooking, more cleaning. We’ve got a big job, especially the NFL wives and girlfriends with kids.
‘Y’all wonder why we just post us having fun, it’s just during the season. Do you know what goes on during the offseason? We are put to work. We are personal assistants. That’s why we enjoy ourselves while we can.’
Searight appears to have since taken the video down but social media users had already begun to express their concern with some interpreting her comments about players taking out their anger to be a veiled hint at abuse.
However, she was quick to shut down the rumors, replying to one comment that read, ‘”A lot of anger may be taken out on us” like that shouldn’t be normal.’
‘Y’all need to relax. I’m talking about dealing with their angry emotions after a tough loss. If he’s walking around made one day out of nowhere, I’m gonna have to deal with it (like any normal couple) no this does not mean abuse LOL BYE,’ Searight responded.
She also addressed her comments about housework, insisting her boyfriend deserves for her to wait on him.
‘Yes, I already cook, clean, wait on my man all season (bc he deserves it and has done nothing but treat me like a queen) but once offseason comes and they’re HOME home the amount I have to do is so amped up,’ she said.
‘He is beat up, tired and HEALING. That means a heavier load on mom while he takes time to do that.
‘THEN YES I GET TO VACA CAUSE WE A TEAM AND WE EARNED IT. BYE.’
Searight has been dating Aiyuk since at least 2018 with the couple reportedly meeting at Arizona State University. They welcomed their son Braylon in 2020.
She also hinted in another TikTok video that they could be set to leave the Bay Area after the Niners’ Super Bowl loss.
‘This might be the last day that we touch foot on Levi’s Stadium, me and Brandon,’ she said. ‘Because we might not be out here next season.’
Aiyuk will not be a free agent this offseason after the Niners picked up the 25-year-old’s fifth-year option last April, meaning he would have to be traded in order to depart Levi’s Stadium.
If he stays put, Aiyuk would be in line to receive an annual salary of $14million.
The California-born star dropped a cryptic message on his Instagram account after Sunday’s Super Bowl heartbreak, writing on Instagram: ‘Don’t forget what got you there’ along with eyeball emojis.
Aiyuk has enjoyed four seasons with the Niners after being drafted as a first-round pick back in 2020.
He has proven a key member of their offense ever since, registering 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns in four seasons – including a career-best 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.
